Essay for design 1

My graphic design was based on six different words to create one solid image using the rule of thirds. The six words i used were repetition, contrast, flow, balance, alignment, and emphasis. These six words are the basis of design and are used in almost every aspect of design. i started with the word emphasis because its the vocal point of the piece. I darkened the text and bolded it while making the lettering bigger then everything else on the design. i emphasized all the letters in the word by extending all the legs and so forth to make it express its meaning of emphasis more. i placed emphasis at the bottom and rotated it up so it took up more space on the design so your eyes get drawn to it when you look at the piece. The second word i placed on this piece was repetition in which i took a basis of lines i drew and typed repetition on the lines over and over again to give it the look that repetition needs in any design. The way i placed repetition goes good with the placement of emphasis because the lightness of the text brings out emphasis more. The third word i used was flow where i uses the second a in the word Balance in which i had flow making the shape of the a and the word balance would be balancing on top of it. i did this because the way the word flow works it way around the whole design and bringing the word balance into its pattern to make it flow even more. The forth word was balance and i used the pattern of flow to make it look like the word balance was balancing on an A from the pattern of flow. Contrast was the fifth word and its supposed to look like yin yang symbol with a white and dark contrast to it. this word is also supposed to look like its being held up by the A i used with the pattern of flow. the last word was alignment in which i placed on the top right where i aligned all the letters making it bring out the meaning of the word more. all together this piece pulls your eyes all over the place making it flow, balance, contrast, align, and emphasis. its uses the rule of thirds to its fullest and is successfully expressing the meaning of the words in one solid design.
